Beautiful Nagamaki naoshi
attributed to the famous Kanesada. Good strong shape plus a very well
controlled hamon show the quality of what made Kanesada famous. Done
in the style that was well known for Kanesada , this sword is a nice
representative piece for collectors of good Koto Mino. Kanesada line
was even more famous than that of the Magoroku Kanemoto. Regarded
by many as the top Mino smith during the Late Koto period, they were
especially known for their sharp cutting ability. This sword is very
healthy, and was well cared for. Well formed gunome midare done in
nie-deki with kinsuji and some small sunagashii. By looking at this
sword one can see why some Mino-Seki swords are very highly regarded
in Japan. Good masame mixed with running itame make up the hada, chikei
is present along with nice fine ji-nie. Boshi is very healthy in yakizume
style. Tang is osuriage mumei, but with a kinzogan (gold attribution)
to Kanesada. There are 3 holes, two that are plugged. Accompanied
with a nice shirasaya and silver habaki. NBTHK paper to Kanesada.
In a beautiful professional Japanese polish. All in all this sword
is very well made, and deserves a place in a serious collection. |
